A Mode of Academic Leadership Development based on Buddhadhamma for Administrators of Secondary Schools under Bangkok Metropolitan (Buddhist Educational Administration)

Abstract

The objectives of this research were; 1) to study problems of academic leadership based on Buddhadhamma for administrators of secondary schools under Bangkok Metropolitan, 2) to develop a model of academic leadership development based on Buddhadhamma for administrators of secondary schools under Bangkok Metropolitan , and 3) to propose the model of academic leadership development based on Buddhadhamma for administrators of secondary schools under Bangkok Metropolitan . The mixed research methodology was used in the study. The qualitative data were collected from documents, in-depth interview with 4 key-informants and focus group discussions with 9 experts. The quantitative data were collected from 269 samples who were heads of 8 course subjects and from 104 school administrators by questionnaires in 4 aspects; usefulness, feasibility, appropriateness, and accuracy. The data were analyzed by mean, percentage and standard deviation.

The research results showed that;

1.  The state of problems in academic leadership based on Buddhadhamma for administrators of secondary schools under Bangkok Metropolitan Administration on vision, mission, and educational development goal was at a high level. The serious problem was on putting measurement and evaluation on vision, mission and educational development goal into practice, followed by teacher professional development. The most problem was on building relationship and cooperation with community and other academics for learning management.  Supervising, monitoring and evaluating on learning management were at a high level since school administrators and teachers worked together to arrange supervising, monitoring and follow-up system in learning management regularly and continuously.

2.  The development of a model of academic leadership development based on Buddhadhamma for administrators of secondary schools under Bangkok Metropolitan Administration consisted of 4 parts: 1. Lead which consisted of; 1) Principle, 2) Objective, and 3) School context, 2. Development process model consisting of 1) Academic leadership factors, 2) Academic leadership development step, 3) Good characteristics of academic leaders, 4) Dhamma used in academic leadership development, and 5) Project of academic leadership development or DARAWAN-DDD Project, 3. Application which consisted of; 1) Preparation, 2) Operation, 3) Evaluation, and 4. Application condition which consisted of; 1) Adjustment according to school-size and 2) Adjustment according to school environment.

3.  The result of examination and evaluation of the model of academic leadership development based on Buddhadhamma for administrators of secondary schools under Bangkok Metropolitan Administration was at a high level overall. Usefulness was at the highest level, followed by accuracy, appropriateness, and feasibility respectively.
